As the starting left guard for the Cleveland Browns in 1985, George blocked for two 1000-yard running backs, Kevin Mack and Earnest Byner, in the same season. Only two other NFL teams (Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Steelers) have reached that feat. Running backs in the NFL need good linemen like George Lilja to lead the way if they are going to reach 1000 yards.
Today, George is leading the way on another field. He is telling people about a relationship with Jesus Christ. George was faced with two Biblical truths in high school that changed his life forever.
Romans 3:23 states, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". Jesus said in John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father but by Me.". George came to know God when he put his faith in Christ, who paid for our suns by His death on the cross.
Our purpose in life only makes sense through a relationship with our Creator. Accomplishments fail to provide lasting security or fulfillment. Christ sets our course in life, gives us power for living, and secures our eternity.
