I was born to bleed scarlet and grey. From the time I was a little boy, I dreamed of following in my father’s footsteps and battling for the mighty Buckeyes. At the age of thirteen, I attended my first Ohio State game where sadly, I watched my beloved undefeated Buckeyes fall in a 13-9 loss to a less talented 8-3 Michigan team. Since that day, the Maize and Blue has been my sworn enemy, and the rivalry of the Ohio State/Michigan game has taken on a new intensity for me. Words cannot express the feelings of playing in an Ohio State- Michigan game. It is the fastest, hardest hitting, most intense game in College football. Few rivalries are as heatedly contested year in and year out as the annual battle between Ohio State and that team up North. I will never forget the feeling of springing the block that allowed Antonio Pitman to score the winning touchdown in the waning seconds of the 2005 game or of being on the field as the 2006 1 vs. 2 match-up ended in an Ohio State victory. With students rushing around me on the field to celebrate as the clock struck zero, I was overwhelmed with pride and the realization that I had been blessed to be a part of such an amazing year.
No matter what happens in my future, whether it is the NFL or a corporate boardroom, few experiences will be worthy of comparison with those that occurred on the field each third Saturday of November. Yet there is one experience which as been infinitely more meaningful. Choosing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ has been the single most rewarding decision of my life. The idea is simple: Jesus’s life was a perfect sacrifice. He offered each of us a gift of salvation by suffering for us. The hardest part for me has been to give up control of my life instead of selfishly doing what I want to do, and letting God mold me into what He wants. Accepting the gift that Jesus offers us all was only the beginning. There are few things in this world I dislike more than a wolverine, but I have joined The Team so that you have a chance to hear about God’s free gift. What’s holding you back?
